STATEMENT: 192 REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS VOTE AGAINST BABY FORMULA FUNDING, TURN THEIR BACKS ON WORKING FAMILIES

Funding Would Help Alleviate Baby Formula Shortage, 192 Republicans Vote No

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last night, the House of Representatives passed a $28 billion emergency funding bill that would support the Food & Drug Administration’s efforts to alleviate the shortfall of baby formula. The bill would increase the number of FDA inspection staff, boost resources for those working on formula issues, and help stop fraudulent formula from entering the country. Yet incredibly, 192 Republican lawmakers voted against the bill.

Invest in America senior adviser Zac Petkanas issued the following statement:

“It’s unconscionable that 192 Republican lawmakers voted against giving the FDA resources so we can get formula to families to feed their babies. Many of these members are falsely pointing fingers at President Biden for the shortage, yet vote against a bill that helps families in need? It’s cowardly.

“This kind of investment is exactly what Congress should be focused on – lowering costs and solving problems for working class families. We need more of this leadership from Congress, not less.”
