SENATE GOP OBSTRUCTION OF JAN 6. COMMISSION MORE PROOF NO SERIOUS BIPARTISAN DEAL POSSIBLE WITH INFRASTRUCTURE
Republicans’ shameful obstruction of the Jan. 6 commission serves as the latest proof that the GOP will never negotiate with Democrats in good faith — not on the commission, and not on the American Jobs Plan.
“Once again, Republicans are falling back on their tired tactics of feigning an interest in bipartisanship to get concessions from Democrats just to reverse course towards full-blown obstruction,” said Zac Petkanas, senior advisor for Invest in America Action. “There is a lesson to be learned here in the infrastructure negotiations. It’s naive to think Republicans will negotiate earnestly on the American Jobs and Families Plans while they simultaneously obstruct the Jan. 6 commission, which was negotiated in a similar bipartisan fashion.
“Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear Senate Republicans are 100% focused on stopping the new administration, which is the most honest thing he’s said in a decade. Today’s vote is proof that Republicans would rather cut off their nose to spite their face than achieve anything in a bipartisan manner.”
