REPORT: THE LAWMAKERS WHO VOTED AGAINST CRITICAL INVESTMENTS BUT TOUTED THEM ANYWAY

The List is Long

WASHINGTON, D.C. — During the past 21 months, Congress passed a substantial number of critical investments that have assisted Americans through the pandemic, improved crumbling infrastructure, invested in American manufacturing, and lowered key costs for families.

The accomplishments of this Congress, including the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, have been widely praised. They’re so popular that they’ve even been celebrated by the lawmakers who voted against them.

Here’s a list of the Republican lawmakers who have touted the programs they voted against… or at least all of those that we know about.

BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW

At least 48 Republican lawmakers touted funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law after voting against it.

AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN

At least 6 Republican Lawmakers touted funding from the American Rescue Plan after voting against it.

2022 OMNIBUS BILL

At least 6 Republican Lawmakers touted funding from this year’s Omnibus Appropriations Package after voting against it.

About Invest in America

Invest In America is a national rapid response operation advocating for robust public investment to rescue the economy from the COVID crisis and create prosperity for the future, and to fight back against fear-mongers who use deficit concerns as a scapegoat to starve American communities and businesses of resources.

The operation consists of two components: Invest in America, the charitable and public education arm, which is a fiscally sponsored project of Economic Security Project funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and Economic Security Project co-chair Chris Hughes; and Invest in America Action, the advocacy and social welfare arm, which is a fiscally sponsored project of Economic Security Project Action funded by Chris Hughes and the Omidyar Network.
