Former President Barack Obama: “…once in a while, it’s still possible to take a giant leap forward. That’s what the Build Back Better framework represents.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, after President Biden’s announcement of transformational investments to rebuild the middle class through the Build Back Better Framework, leaders and advocates weighed in to show their support for these once-in-a-generation commitments to tackle the climate crisis, expand access to affordable health care, make our immigration system more just and humane, invest in childcare and caregiving, extend the Child Tax Credit, establish universal preschool, and more.

Here’s a look at what advocacy organizations are saying about the Build Back Better Framework — from climate, care, education, health, immigration, labor, and beyond:

American Bridge: “Thanks to Democrats in Congress and the Biden-Harris Administration’s bipartisan agenda, America will once again prioritize workers and middle-class families over the billionaires who got a sweetheart deal under the last administration and Republican leadership.”

Building Back Together: “The President came into office promising to find common ground and he has delivered. This transformative framework will grow our economy from the bottom up and middle out to benefit everyone — not just those at the top. Importantly, the President has kept his promise to pay for his plans without raising taxes on any American making less than $400,000 a year by ensuring the ultra-wealthy and large corporations finally pay their fair share.”

Center for American Progress: “The announcement of today’s Build Back Better framework marks a new beginning for American families, our economy, and our planet. With the Build Back Better Act, President Biden and Democratic leaders in Congress are on the precipice of passing the most consequential economic legislation in 50 years.”

Invest in America: “If passed, this framework would achieve three things: create millions of jobs, lower everyday costs for families and cut taxes for the middle-class…This legislation will be groundbreaking and — paired with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal — will lead to enormous economic growth while reducing the growing inequities in our economy.”

Clean Energy for America: “As clean energy businesses, workers, and entrepreneurs continue working hard to deliver the most innovative and accessible clean energy technologies to the American people, President Biden and Congress have an opportunity to accelerate the growth of this critical sector of our economy by delivering historic long-term investments in clean energy in the Build Back Better Act (BBBA).”

Climate Action Campaign: “We need more clean energy, the jobs that a clean economy will deliver, and we need to right the wrongs of decades of environmental injustice. Congress can and should do all of that and more with the big, bold investments in the Build Back Better Act. Congress must move swiftly to advance this bill and deliver for all of us.”

Climate Power: “This is our climate moment. The historic climate investments in the Build Back Better framework put our nation on the path to cut pollution in half by 2030. It’s a huge opportunity for Congress to take on the climate crisis and make a bold investment in our country’s future.”

Corazón Latino: “The proposed legislation provides the path forward that we need to launch an equitable economic recovery and ensure the environmental progress that will allow our families the best opportunities to thrive.”

Environment America: “This bill would usher in a decade of clean energy growth and make renewables less expensive for consumers and businesses—a win-win for Americans and our environment.”

Environmental Defense Fund: “The Build Back Better Act represents a significant step toward a healthier, safer and more stable future. By making major investments in the transportation, electric power and industrial sectors — the three biggest sources of climate pollution — the framework announced today will accelerate our transition to a clean economy that delivers millions of new jobs, fights climate change and promotes a healthier and more equitable America.”

League of Conservation Voters: “It’s a historic day for people and the planet. Once passed, this framework for the Build Back Better Act will be the strongest action the United States has ever taken to combat the climate crisis. We commend President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, and environmental champions throughout Congress for this framework that will help put the U.S. on the path to cutting our climate pollution in half by 2030, invest directly in communities of color too often left behind, and create good-paying union jobs.”

National Wildlife Federation: “The president has always said that when he thinks about climate change, he thinks about jobs, and this framework delivers on that vision by creating millions of good paying jobs manufacturing and deploying clean energy and cleaner products, confronting long-standing environmental injustices, and restoring natural infrastructure to bolster community resilience.”

The Nature Conservancy: “The Build Back Better framework includes greater investments and stronger policies to address the climate crisis than we’ve seen before, and those can’t come soon enough. This bill would make important progress toward getting us where we need to be, so we’re encouraged and hopeful to get this enacted and seize the momentum for more to come.”

NRDC: “This is historic progress when we need it most, the nation’s strongest climate investment ever. Once enacted, this will provide a record $550 billion to help advance the shift to cleaner, smarter ways to power our future.”

Sierra Club: “We congratulate President Biden and Congressional Democrats for advancing a bold vision for historic climate action as part of the Build Back Better Act. Now, we urge all parties to embrace a full agreement that includes the critical details and advance final legislative text to ensure that we meet the President’s goal of cutting climate pollution in half by 2030 while supporting racial, economic, and environmental justice.”

Union of Concerned Scientists: ““The framework includes historic investments that would begin to address environmental injustices, such as legacy pollution, which have caused harm and suffering predominantly to Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.”
