THIRD WAY AND DATA FOR PROGRESS: DEMOCRATS URGENTLY NEED TO COME TOGETHER TO PASS BUILD BACK BETTER PLAN

Sean McElwee, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Data for Progress: “The sooner we can get these bills finalized and get a set of impactful programs for Americans, the sooner we can message those, unified as a party, to both our base and the independent and swing voters. That’s why there is real urgency around getting this across the finish line.”

Matt Bennett, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Third Way: “What we’re here to emphasize is the political imperative of getting these bills — both of them — across the finish line. If Democrats and the President can get these bills passed and signed, they will show Americans that they can successfully govern and accomplish what they were sent to Washington to do.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As conversations around President Biden’s agenda continue to progress among Democrats on Capitol Hill, leaders from moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party joined a press call hosted by Invest in America Action to discuss the urgent political need to pass both the Build Back Better Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal. A recording of the call is available here

The speakers expressed that Democrats from all sides of the party must come together to pass the Build Back Better agenda and discussed new polling from Invest in America and Data for Progress demonstrating Democrats’ political success depends on delivering the Build Back Better Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal to Americans.

Third Way Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Public Affairs Matt Bennett and Data for Progress Co-Founder and Executive Director Sean McElwee made the following statements at a press call:

“What we’re here to emphasize is the political imperative of getting these bills — both of them — across the finish line. If Democrats and the President can get these bills passed and signed, they will show Americans that they can successfully govern and accomplish what they were sent to Washington to do,” said Matt Bennett, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Third Way. “When this deal emerges, it will not be perfect — not a single Democrat in Congress will find everything they want in the final package — but it is going to be absolutely essential that all of them support it.”

“There are enormous substantive reasons why it’s important for individual components of this package to be included, but politically, what will matter most for Democrats is that the bills are done,” said Sean McElwee, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Data for Progress. “The sooner we can get these bills finalized and get a set of impactful programs for Americans, the sooner we can demonstrate, to both our base and the independents, that we are unified as a party and able to get things done. That’s why there is real urgency around getting this across the finish line.”
