STATEMENT: THE BIDEN JOBS BOOM CONTINUES
98 Percent of Jobs Lost During Pandemic Have Returned, Unemployment Remains Low
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Employers added 372,000 in June, according to the jobs report released today by the Labor Department. Thanks to President Biden’s leadership, the U.S. economy continues a record-setting pace of job growth and unemployment remains at a low 3.6 percent.
Heather Long from the Washington Post notes that 98 percent of jobs lost during the pandemic have returned and the number of people employed part-time for economic reasons declined by 707,000. She tweets, “translation: people who want full-time jobs can get them.”
Invest in America’s senior adviser Zac Petkanas issued the following statement:
“With historic investments like the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, U.S. employers keep hiring and the American economy keeps growing. There could not be a stronger case that public investment works than the job creation under President Biden.
“The U.S. economy has grown by nearly 9 million jobs in less than two years and may grow faster than China’s economy for the first time in more than 45 years. The speed with which this recovery has taken place has exceeded all expectations – no matter how bold.
“Now that employment has largely recovered, Congress must address rising prices that many Americans are feeling. President Biden has outlined a plan to lower prescription drug prices, invest in clean energy to lower energy costs, and ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes. It’s time to pass these cost-cutting measures without delay.”
