REPUBLICANS BLOCK CONSIDERATION OF INFRASTRUCTURE FRAMEWORK, THREATENING MILLIONS OF JOBS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

Republicans’ ‘No’ Votes on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework Could Cost the U.S. Up to 10 Million Good-Paying Jobs

Failure To Properly Fund Our Infrastructure Will Cost Our Economy $10 Trillion In GDPMore Than 3 Million Jobs, And $2.24 Trillion In Exports By 2039

Moody’s Chief Economist Mark Zandi“Failing to pass [the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework and the Build Back Better agenda] would certainly diminish the economy’s prospects.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senate Republicans refused to vote to advance the bipartisan infrastructure framework, a move that could threaten the creation of millions of jobs and cost the country billions of dollars of investment in physical infrastructure, water infrastructure, broadband, and the electric grid.

This morning, Moody’s chief economist Mark Zandi released a report saying that the bipartisan infrastructure framework, combined with the Build Back Better agenda’s investments in caregiving and clean energy, would “lift productivity and labor force growth,” and that failure to pass them would harm the economy’s prospects.

Invest in America Action’s senior advisor Zac Petkanas made the following statement:

“We have a once-in-a-generation chance to make long overdue investments in our infrastructure, create millions of jobs, and position the U.S. to once again be a leader in the global economy. Unfortunately, Republicans voted to block the Senate from even considering the legislation, trying to run out the clock instead of delivering for the American people.

“We simply can’t afford more delays when it comes to investing in our crumbling infrastructure. Americans are already suffering the costs every day — from dangerously deficient bridges and power grids to lack of access to clean water and public transportation to the effects of lead exposure and air pollution.

“Congress has spent months negotiating the contours of this plan and we don’t have any more time to waste. When Leader Schumer tries again to begin debate on this legislation, Senate Republicans must reconsider their obstruction and vote to create millions of jobs.”

Here’s what Senate Republicans’ refusal to support the bipartisan plan could cost the economy:
