PRESS CALL WED. 3PM ET: SEN. RON WYDEN, TOP LABOR ECONOMIST DISCUSS LOOMING UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE EXPIRATION, FEBRUARY JOBS REPORT
Without Action from Congress, More Than 11 Million Workers Will Begin to Lose Unemployment Benefits Starting on March 14
Sen. Wyden and a Top Labor Economist Discuss the Need to Pass the American Rescue Plan Before March 14, and Preview What They’ll Be Watching for in the February Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, DC — Wednesday at 3:00PM ET, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Elizabeth Pancotti, Policy Director at Employ America, will join a press call hosted by Invest in America Action to discuss the economic consequences that will arise if Congress fails to pass the American Rescue Plan before expanded unemployment insurance expires on March 14. RSVP for the call here.
They will also offer context on what the upcoming February jobs report will reveal about the state of the economy and labor market. Last month, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said that the real unemployment rate is likely closer to 10% after factoring in misclassification errors.
The expiration of expanded unemployment insurance on March 14 would mark the beginning of a cascading economic catastrophe for American businesses, families, and state and local governments without additional federal aid. Read more on what’s at stake here.
