U.S. Conference of Mayors, National League of Cities, and National Association of Counties and a Coalition of State Treasurers Have All Opposed Plan to Fund Infrastructure by Raiding American Rescue Plan Funds for States, Localities, and Essential Workers
WASHINGTON, DC — Today at 3:15pm ET, Democratic State Treasurer Zach Conine, Republican County Commissioner of Mercer County, W.V., Greg Puckett, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, and child care provider Miren Algorri will join a press call hosted by Invest in America Action to push back against any proposal that would raid American Rescue Plan funding that was meant to keep essential workers on the job and shore up state economies after the pandemic. RSVP for the call here.
President Biden’s American Jobs and Families Plans would create millions of good-paying jobs for working families, and pay for it by making those earning over $400,000 and big corporations pay their fair share, including by ending deductions companies now get for shipping US jobs overseas. But the latest counter-proposals would shift the cost of infrastructure onto working families and essential workers by clawing back crucial Covid relief funding in the American Rescue Plan, which transformed options for struggling state and local governments and currently keeps essential workers like firefighters, EMTs, and teachers on the job.
- Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers
- Greg Puckett (R), County Commissioner, Mercer County, West Virginia
- Zach Conine (D), State Treasurer of Nevada
- Miren Algorri, Little Blossoms Child Care in Los Angeles, CA
- A bipartisan group of state and local officials, union leaders, and advocates will join a press call to explain why Senate Republicans’ proposal to claw back American Rescue Plan funds is a bad idea for essential workers, working families, and state economies.
- RSVP for the press call here.
