NEW POLL: MAJORITY OF VOTERS SUPPORT PASSING AMERICAN JOBS & FAMILIES PLANS THROUGH RECONCILIATION, WANT GOP TO STOP OBSTRUCTING BIDEN’S AGENDA

58% of Voters, Including 54% of Independents, Support Passing the American Jobs & Families Plans Through Reconciliation

55% of Voters Believe It Is More Important For Republicans To Work With President Biden To Pass The American Jobs & Families Plans Than Obstruct His Agenda

Majority of Voters Oppose Sen. McConnell’s Statement that “100 Percent Of [His] Focus Is On Stopping This New Biden Administration”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to a new poll from Invest in America and Data For Progress, a sound majority of voters support passing the American Jobs and Families Plans through reconciliation and believe that it is more important for Republicans to focus on helping President Biden enact his agenda, rather than obstructing it at every turn.

“While Republicans spend 100% of their time obstructing President Biden’s agenda, they should take note: voters have zero interest in their petty, partisan games,” said Zac Petkanas, senior advisor for Invest in America Action. “Americans across the country are counting on lawmakers to deliver economic relief and recovery through the American Jobs and Families Plans no matter how it’s passed. With millions of jobs still missing, a rising threat of climate change, crumbling roads and bridges, and a child and a worsening long-term care crisis, the stakes are too high for us to sit around waiting for Republicans to come to the table with serious alternatives.

“Their only plan still includes poison pills like gutting crucial investments to create jobs and raising taxes on the middle-class. That’s no way to find bipartisan agreement that meets the urgency of the moment.

“The good news is there is another way: voters are perfectly fine if President Biden and congressional Democrats need to move forward with reconciliation. They should seriously consider doing so.”

Conducted of 1,214 likely voters between May 14-17, the poll found that:

  • 58% percent of voters, including 54% of Independents, support passing the American Jobs and Families Plans via reconciliation.
  • 55% of voters, including 56% of Independents, say that it is more important for Republicans in Congress to work with President Biden to pass the American Jobs Plan than to keep him in check.
  • 55% of voters, including 59% of Independents, say that it is more important for Republicans in Congress to work with President Biden to pass the American Families Plan than to keep him in check.
  • A majority of voters oppose Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) obstructionism. 55% of voters, including 54% of Independents, say Republicans’ focus should be on helping President Biden enact his agenda — and disagree with McConnell’s statement that “100 percent of [his] focus is on stopping this new Biden administration.”
